Porcelain is the most commonly used Floor Tile due to its exceptional strength and low porosity. Increases in the sizes of tiles through design trends have created a need for stronger tiles that can handle more stress and point-load. A good porcelain tile will have a high percentage of water resistance, especially on its surface, through careful polishing and handling. The naturally occurring porcelain clays are quite dense. Glazed porcelain tiles are rated differently based on how they are made – these ratings determine if a porcelain tile will scratch or chip more easily than others in it’s category, although generally this is not a concern with porcelain.
